Luxury Hotel
One of the biggest hotel openings to ever come to the Pacific Northwest of Canada or US, the Shangri-la chain shows off its glittery first North American property located in the center of downtown Vancouver and nearby waterfront. The glassy skyscrapper makes quite an impression on the city skyline, it's tallest building, even before arriving to the grand lobby of the hotel. More modest than you might expect, the lobby is lined in creamy limestone and marble outfitted in cubist furnishings that wouldn't look out of place in an airline VIP lounge, albeit with dazzling matching chandeliers and zig-zag artwork that leaves the senses underwhelmed. Home to one of the best day spas in Vancouver, the hotel also offers a swimming pool and fitness center each its own view. Appetites should be satiated at MARKET by Jean-Georges Vongerichten offering a more glittery setting than the rest of the hotel for power lunches and be-seen dinners. <br />
The Room
A total of 15-floors is home to the hotel portion of this high-rise condo-hotel-office building. Corridors are blunt and efficient lined in pleasant artwork and thick-grade carpeting leading to tasteful doorways. Inside guest room, entry-level accommodations come with impressive views of the city skyline as well as more than half the rooms offering a balcony. Service is great, with butler service and ever-prompt room service to make up for the sometime utilitarian luxury translated through mediocre decor choices from drapes to side tables. Bathrooms are great for spa-seekers with deep soaking tubs and rain showers complimented by a decent selection of house-named toiletries.
